Almost perfect day gone bad

any one elses cases break down due to this heat wave in the midwest?  I had my case full of beautiful fresh meat all ready for business and I was expecting a record day.  then at 2 30 an hour and a half before i was to go home I started working lunch meat andd disovered the entire lunchmeat and dairy case was way too warm. I checked the guages and they read 60 degrees so i went and checked the Fresh meat case because both cases run on the same breaker...Sure enough it was also 60 degrees...Oh crap...we had to call a manager in to figure out what to do.  the managers tinkers with a few things but it didn't work. It being sunday no Heat and Air guys are available.  so the decision was made to empty both cases of all but just a couple packs of each item.  So depressing isn't it?  Hopefully it will back up in the morning but I feel like we blew the busiest day i have seen in awhile.  Customers were swarming all over me when I was emptying the case asking things like why isn't there any meat in here...I could have said oh gee because I think its funny this way. well i hope the rest of you had better luck today.

Sorry you had a bad day.

The week of the 4th of July and we had the big storm we lost power 3 times that week. We were breaking boxes down and taping to the counters to keep as much cool air in as possible. Everything that was 3 faze went down. OH Lord!! Standing around waiting for the electric guys to fix us up. Who shows up in the middle of all of this, our friendly health inspector.

The electric guys saved our butt's each time. But it is stressful for sure.

Hope you have a better tomorrow.

RE: Almost perfect day gone bad

I was Cutting Room Manager for Ingles and by myself on a Wed. Power went out around 2:00 during a bad storm. We had a young VERY pretty asst store manager on duty. After about 30 mins. for shooting the bull with every one about the power being out and kidding them about they were going to have to pull that long freezer, I got me two flash lights and start cleaning up, every one was laughing at me for cleaning in the dark with the lights. I told them this wasn't my first Rodeo, been here, done this.

I knew from the past that the power was never off more than two hours because we were on the same lines with the Wal-Mart down the street. THEY GOING to get them power FAST. I had butcher paper to cover my meat so I wasn't worried.

The young pretty asst came to me about a hour & 1/2 later saying, you been around a long time, what should I do. I told her it was to late to do WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE !!

What was that she ask, I told her, when the power went off and you locked the doors, you were suppose to go to the beer cooler, get two cases of beer, take it to the back room, call every one back there, tell them to get naked and have a beer and LETS PARTY !!! Thats what you do when the power goes off !!!

She call me a pervert and ran back up front lol

With the flash lights I had cleaned up in two hours, just as I had finish cleaning the lights came back on, I had about 10 mins to clock out time.

It was Me laughing as I clocked out and they had to clean up their mess around the store and produce ( wink )

AN YES I have been in a few beer drinking power out partys in the back room before 1980, after that it became a sexual harassment thing. There were a lot of meat wrappers, cashiers, and bakery girls piss off at the younger cashiers that bought those claims.

AHHHHHHHHHH for the good days !!!
