Back in 1971, I started working in a small local grocery as a carryout and stock clerk. I worked in that job till about 10 yrs later and was asked if I wanted to move back to the meat dept and learn how to cut meat. So I did. When I started at this store, I got to know one of the butchers and we became friends. He taught me the basics on cutting and breaking down the beefs. We worked together for 38 yrs. In 1998, a bigger chain bought us out and we moved to one of their stores in Santa Claus, Ind. Last year, they broke us up, moving him to another store several miles away. I still see him regularly, since we live close by. Anyone else worked with someone for a long time.
I think the longest I ever work with some one was in Mobile, Al. Great meat man, fast & good, we were together for about three years. I kept in touch with him for years after. he past away in 82 with liver problems, he was a big drinker. Never got to stay long in one place with A&P, I was a cutting room trouble shooter for them for 15 years and they moved me often.
That picture is about 11 years ago. Me and a couple of me cousins snuck over to Ireland and visited with some of the family. Funny thing about me Irish family, they prefer to camp out sometimes in an old ferret's den. Me, give me a tall Pecan tree anytime. Now about the drinking, You know St Paddy's day is a couple days away, I do have some 12 yr old Irish whiskey I brought along. Thats just for some special moments with me kin.
A friend of mine I grew up with k-12 ended up cutting meat as did I. We worked for different companies for years I moved to tx he stayed hometown boy. I wound up hometown when a big new store opened and he got in there also. We worked together for 17 years till I got stupid and moved away again. We had a lot of laughs he's a very funny guy. He got me hooked on fishing also he's a good fisherman so we talked fishin' and huntin' a lot. Good times I miss it...
